This picture is making the rounds on Reddit, and I have to admit, even though this particular store is out of jawns, I’m actually relieved. Here’s why:
I have a theory that the word “jawn” has been becoming somewhat of a rarity. Being that I spend the majority of my days in North Philadelphia I believe I am privy to being exposed to the latest slang words and phrases that the city has to offer. I really have not been hearing “jawn” all that much lately, especially compared to many years ago. If anything, it’s something being used by the old heads, and not so much the young buls, which means it may eventually die out.
Jawns are awesome, and I hope the word makes a Rocky-style comeback. In the meantime, check out our compilation of jawns for how to speak Philadelphian.
